And the memes for this week are…

The first meme up for discussion is one posted by a Facebook page called ShutUpImStillTalking, but I re-posted it from a different page. The page I got it from is for a radio station, it’s called 100.9 The Cat. This one came up in my memories for March 29, 2014, and I shared it again today. The meme shows a picture of the muppet Animal, and the text says, “So you mean to tell me a stress ball isn’t for throwing at people who stress you out?” I love this meme because it makes me laugh. And wish I could throw a stress ball at the people who stress me out. The link for the meme is here.

Another meme I ran across in my memories for today makes me grin when I see it. I originally shared it six years ago on March 29, 2013, and it was from a Facebook page called Heart Touching Fun. The meme is a picture of two dogs, one is explaining something to the other. The text reads, “Here’s all you need to know about men and women. Women are crazy, men are stupid. The main reason women are crazy is because men are stupid.” I feel this meme explains so much of the idiocy seen around the world. And I love George Carlin, may he rest in peace. Carlin used this line in one of his stand-up comedy acts. If you haven’t seen him in action, go rent one of his shows. The laughter will add years to your life. The link to the meme is here.

The third meme of the week pretty much explains my life. I shared it on March 27, 2017, and re-shared it on March 27, 2019. It was posted by a Facebook page called “jus’ sayin’” on March 26, 2017. This one shows a cat sitting on a kitchen chair looking at the camera with one ear bent back. On the kitchen table is a mug full of coffee. The text reads, “First I drink the coffee, then I do the stuff.” I drink coffee everyday, mostly at work, but I do have a Kuerig at home. Because I work at Waffle House, I can drink coffee the entire shift- as long as I do it in the back room. If I don’t have coffee, I can’t function properly. I will take tea if coffee is not available, but prefer coffee. The link for the meme is here.

For meme number four this week, I chose one that was posted by a friend from high school whose name is Lisa Rogers McCain. She shared this one on March 29, 2019 and so did I. The picture shows a railroad track flowing into the horizon of a sunset. The text reads, “When your past calls, don’t answer. It has nothing new to say.” These words strike true for me. Don’t look back, because you can’t see where you’re going, only where you’ve been. If you keep yourself focused on the future, your past mistakes can’t interfere with your future decisions. This is the main reason I came back to school to finish my Bachelor’s degree. The link for the picture is here.

And we have arrived at the fifth link for the week. This is not a meme, but a link to an article that was shared by a friend in a private group on Facebook. The link to the article is here. The article discusses one girls Instagram account and how she uses her huge library of books to create images for Instagram. The users name is Elizabeth Sagan, and she has many followers on Instagram. She is also in the pictures she posts to Instagram. She is using this genre to appeal to people who may not read as much as she does. The reason I’m using this article is because until now I had resisted Instagram. But when I read the article my first reaction was, “Dammit, now I need an Instagram!” And when I posted that on the Facebook post, of course, all of my FB friends agreed. Sigh. So now I have an Instagram.

And here we are at the rhetorical situation again. Obviously, I’m going to use the last link I posted as the analysis for this week. The purpose of Elizabeth Sagan is to get people to read more. The purpose of this article is to get more people to use Instagram, and to introduce non-users of Instagram to some of its perks. And boy did it work, at least on me. I now have an Instagram. Maybe I’ll even use it. Originally, this article comes from mymodernmet.com, but it was shared on Facebook, which is how I found it. Getting more people into reading is important. And the images Sagan creates with her books pulls people into the idea that reading could be fun. I like that she is using the physical books in this way, also. It shows that books do not have to sit on a bookshelf gathering dust. Here is a link to Elizabeth Sagan’s Instagram account.
