So for this week, I’m going to start with a meme from my memories on Facebook from March 20, 2014. The picture is of someone relaxing in what could be an old-time bathtub. The text reads, “Remember the days when people just assumed you were otherwise occupied and didn’t freak out if you didn’t answer the phone? Let’s go back to that please.” This one was posted by a Facebook page called Believe in the Magic of Christmas. I remember a long time ago when we just let the phone ring, or there was a busy signal and you tried to call back later. It wasn’t enough to send a person into a panic if they couldn’t answer the phone. Or if someone else couldn’t answer the phone. Now, people can’t go anywhere without a phone. If they leave their cell phone at home, they go back for it. I don’t think wireless means what we think it means. The link for the meme is here.
Second meme for the week should make everyone sit up and take notice. It was posted to Facebook on March 19, 2016 originally by a Facebook page called Wild Woman Sisterhood. I shared it on the same day, and re-shared it this week when it came up in my Facebook memories. The picture is of a woman dressed in what looks like a night shirt walking through a dark area of trees following a path. The text reads, “F-E-A-R has two meanings: ‘Forget Everything And Run’ or ‘Face Everything And Rise.’ The choice is yours.” This is a quote attributed to Zig Ziglar on the meme. I don’t know if he actually said it, but the words ring true. I would like to think I would do the latter of the two given the choice, but a person doesn’t know how they will react until put into the situation. The link for the meme is here.
The next link I want to explore is one that a friend sent me through messenger. The link leads to an article on Variety.com talking about how the stars of the TV show “Supernatural” announced that their fifteenth season will be the series finale. The link to the article is here. The guys seem to be trying not to cry on camera. I think their reaction to the announcement is a direct reflection on the relationship between the people on the show and the fans. I shared the link with some of my friends through messenger. Most fans seem to be taking the news well, but we’ll save final judgement for when “Supernatural” airs the finale.
Number four on this week’s list is one I shared yesterday on my Facebook wall. It was originally posted by Empaths, Old Souls, & Introverts on March 21, 2019. The text reads, “There are two types of ‘tired’, I suppose. One is a dire need of sleep, the other is a dire need of peace.” There are times when I feel both of these. Being a college student, I’m used to not getting enough sleep. What bothers me most is when I just need to be alone, away from people and experience quiet. Peace. It’s funny how you notice things the older you get. I know there are people who cannot tone down their lives or personalities. I wish everyone had a place to go where they could plug into some music and be at peace with the world and themselves. I think if this ever happened the world would be a better place to live. The link for the meme is here.
And the last meme I want to look at today was posted by my ex-husband’s second ex-wife. (Yes, I had a season or two of Jerry Springer in my life.) The picture shows your average young girl looking off away from the camera. The text reads, “Let’s teach our daughters it’s not about being beautiful. Teach them to be bold. Be silly. Be Strong. Be confident. Be independent and intelligent. Be brave and be fierce. Be real, in a world full of fake. Let’s redefine beauty.” I don’t have daughters, but I have a granddaughter, and I have a daughter-in-law. I want them to understand that they can be anything they want to be. I hope this meme makes people think about what they say and do around girls. The link for this one is here.

The Rhetorical Situation: I’m going to discuss the last meme for this week’s situation. The genre is a meme on Facebook with the purpose of opening the eyes of parents raising girls today to the possibility of these girls growing up into happy, healthy, and well-adjusted individuals. The context of this meme should be worldwide, however it is probably only some people on Facebook or other social media sites. The writer’s exigence in writing this is to raise awareness of the purposeful holding back of girls, whether here in the USA or anywhere else in the world. We need to give our young (and old) girls their power back. Can you imagine what could be accomplished here on Earth if we just got out of people’s way and let them be true to themselves?
