It’s Spring Break, and I’m trying to get a week ahead on this assignment. So let’s see what Facebook has in store for us this time.
The first meme I want to look at today was posted by a Facebook page called The Mind of An Introvert on March 11, 2019. I shared it to my timeline on March 15, 2019. The picture shows Ang from Avatar: The Last Air Bender looking down a long line of Fire Bender warriors. The text over the warriors reads, “Everything cringy I’ve ever done.” The text over Ang reads, “Me trying to sleep.” I identify with this meme a lot. Doesn’t matter what I’ve done all day, if I try to go to sleep, it’s a no-go. I will lay there for hours trying to get my brain to shut up so I can fall asleep. The link for the meme is here.
The second meme I’m going to discuss today is one that was originally posted by a Facebook page called Awkward Quotes. The picture shows a white board. Written on the white board is this: Always give 100% at work. 1. 12% Monday. 2. 23% Tuesday. 3. 40% Wednesday. 4. 20% Thursday. 5. 5% Friday. This one made me laugh because I’m pretty sure this is how most people feel about their work week. You can probably substitute the word ‘school’ for the word ‘work’ and it would be true, also. The link for the meme is here.
The third meme I will talk about today made me laugh when I saw it. The meme was posted on Facebook March 15, 2019 by a page called Worst. Fanboy Page. Ever. The text above the picture says, “When your grandma finds out you are a Marvel fan.” The picture shows the infinity gauntlet from Avengers: Infinity War, except that it has been crocheted. Hilarious. The link is here. After I found this one, I had to share it and tag a friend who is obsessed with all things Marvel, and she crochets.

The fourth meme I’m discussing today is one I’ve run across before. I shared it to my timeline today, after one of my cousins posted it to hers. Originally it was posted by Cheech Marin on March 14, 2019. It’s a picture of the guy from Office Space, and the text reads, “Yeah, we are going to be short staffed forever, so if you could just work yourself to death that’d be great.” I used to laugh at this one, now it makes me cringe and angry. Mostly because this is the attitude of many companies toward their employees. The link can be found here.
The last thing I want to discuss today is about the Port Arthur Public Library again. On March 13, 2019 the library shared a story about unpacking some old boxes in preparation for the re-opening next Saturday. The story reads, “As we unpacked a few remaining boxes today we came across one marked history albums. Our student assistant asked what is this? She was quite amazed as we explained it is an early form of music! She’d never ever seen one before.” The picture is of someone holding an vinyl LP. The link to the story is here.

And now it’s time for the rhetorical situation analysis. Of course, I’m going to talk about the library post. This story is important because modern kids have no idea what an album was or how this medium affected so many people. It’s amazing to me to see how far technology has come in the last fifty to seventy-five years. My first stereo system had LP storage at the bottom. I feel somehow closer to the music when an LP is playing than I do to any of today’s technology is used. This goes to show another way the library can help people today understand the world of yesterday.
