Media Journal, Week One

The first piece I want to discuss I found on Facebook in a George Takei post. In his post, Mr. Takei links to an article on Percolately.com titled “Lead Singer of Rock Band Shot and Killed by Five Juveniles Ages 12 to 16.” I follow Mr. Takei’s FaceBook page, so the post showed up in my feed today. This is the link to Mr. Takei’s page. Clicking on the article link takes you to the article. The headline made me want to know exactly what happened, so I clicked the link and read the article. My reaction was disbelief and anger that these children could be so cold-hearted that they would kill a man for his car. I feel sad for the victim’s family and friends, and relief that the kids were caught. This is a sad statement on the condition of our country today.

The second media on my list for this week is a sponsored ad that was in my FaceBook feed for an author named Derek Alan Siddoway for his book series on Amazon titled “Gryphon Riders Trilogy Boxed Set.” This is the link on Amazon.com where you can find the book for sale. This is the Facebook page link for the author. I read fantasy novels, and the artwork displayed in the post intrigued me, so I clicked the ad. The series sounds interesting. Who wouldn’t want to ride a gryphon? I added the box set to my wish list but didn’t purchase today.

My third piece of media for this week is a series of photos posted by my nephew, Derrick Borel. Derrick has been building a doghouse for his dogs without a blueprint. This is the link to Derrick’s FaceBook page. He has an album of photos of building the doghouse that can be found here. I think he is doing an excellent job.

The fourth piece I found in my FaceBook memories today. It is a meme posted by me five years ago. It was in my feed and shared by a FaceBook page called Oh You’re a Libra? No Wonder Why I Thought You Were So Brilliant.” The meme says “Libra September 23 – October 22, Shit that gets a libra irritated: When people demand things from them.” I feel the sentiment is true, and I re-posted it today. This is the link.

The fifth and final piece I want to discuss today is another of my memories on FaceBook from six years ago. It is a meme posted by Literature Is My Utopia, and says “little book things: that moment when you realize a character that you like is going to die and you close the book and just stare at it, as if not reading it will keep them alive.” I have done this many times. I have also thrown a book across the room when a favorite character dies. I am looking at you, George R. R. Martin. This is the link to the meme.
